While it was discovered that the 35 whelen ammo was invented by 1922 it was an ammo cartridge for wildcats till Remington began to sell Model 700, a Model 700 chambered for in 1988. It is used to hunt big game especially within North America. While not as well-known than its .30-06 Springfield parent case, the bigger 35 Whelen bullets measure .358 inches/9.1 millimeters in diameter. This makes the ballistics very different. Utilizing 180-250 gr bullets, the muzzle velocity is around 2.72 fps (feet per second) and average muzzle velocity of around 3,483 ft-lb (foot-pounds).
